Problem with Nissan Sentra GXE 2002 1.8L.
Car shuts off while driving gauges go haywire!
Alternator tested good, battery brand new and had tried several new batteries.
We had a suggestion... change out alternator wire plug with 2 female plugs from hardware store.
Any other suggestions???

If the alt tested good , why do you want to alter it ? You buy parts for your car at a auto parts store . You buy stuff for your house and yard from a hardware store. Who tested your alt and what kind of test did they do ? Did they test on or off the car.,?

That's just a suggestion from a mechanic on Youtube. I would alter it if the plugs from Nissan factory are faulty.
I tested the alternator off the car at Ol' Reily Auto Parts. They did like 5 or 6 tests on it on a computer and it was like 14. something on the computer and the guy said that was like perfect! Any other idea's of what this could be would help. Thank You!

Really? Did the youtube guy come out to your house and look at your car?

No, lol. Just watched the video. Seems like a good idea to test this plug...

Here is the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKiweEH0Nxs

LOL..... That guy turned a (fairly common to all cars) loose contact issue into making him a famous Internet star.

In the video he never shows how to make the repair. The problem he had is the female terminal in the plug needed to be tensioned, cleaned, or replaced. Is your vehicle doing the same as his?

In that exact video I'd have worked on the original plug and tighten up connection as it didn't appear all melted from heat beyond a better fix like even a good used one spliced in with doubts new is available but didn't do a world search. Some are common and the pigtail ends are available even aftermarket.

Yes - that appears to be common spade terminals that could be faked with hardware junk till fixed better. Not indicated or shown was the fixed job as DS mentioned. They do make insulated male or female spade connectors not noticed if mentioned so I discredit this video for anything except a temporary fix,

I don't think I would go to Home depot and get spades and try to Jerry rig that if your planning on it to last. Your inviting a whole host of problems such as corrosion, water intrusion, and vibrations causing premature failure. There is a reason the engineers designed the connector to be sealed and retained the way it is.
