So I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota (4.7L) and I recently changed the front passenger hub that had a bad bearing. There is a brake dust shield behind the assembly that I couldn't get off, so I had to bend it to get the speed sensor wire behind it and wire it up into the engine compartment (not sure if this is an issue or not). Next I connected up the speed sensor connection in the engine compartment. I then took the vehicle for a test drive and every time I attempted to stop, my anti-lock brakes turned on (though not the light b/c I believe the dash LED is out). Sometimes this was really bad and it took a while for them to shut off; the roads were dry.
My initial thought was that this was a faulty hub-unit as the speed sensor AND the tone ring are all located within the assembly as far as I could tell. I had the part under warranty and got a new part. I put the new hub in, being extra careful to bend the brake dust shield back into place without knocking the speed sensor. At first, I thought this new hub worked great but after about 5 miles of driving, I found that the anti-lock brakes are going off again, though it is less often and sometimes it is so slight that I barely notice a little crackle in the brake. Please help, any suggestions???
The only other thing I've tried is to wire brush the connection of the speed sensor where it connects in the engine compartment (I used some diaelectric grease there as well). Also, when I removed the ABS fuse to try and bypass the whole ABS system altogether, my speedometer stopped working so that's not really an option. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

You're assuming your issue is still with that wheel and that may not be the case at all. You need a professional scan tool to be able to determine which wheel is causing the issue.

Thank you, I will do so. The only reason I was assuming it was that wheel is because prior to changing that hub, my anti-lock brakes weren't engaging.

You might be right but you need to be sure you're not chasing your tail.

Okay, so definitely understand that it's getting to a point where it's over my head and should probably bring it to a mechanic.
I did attempt to use a code reader with ABS capability and my truck didn't throw any codes. I also noticed something else interesting in that the ABS isn't going off when I have the truck in 4-wheel drive. Also, something definitely feels like it's kind of slipping in 4-wheel . . . Obviously, I'm not so certain this a wiring / speed sensor issue anymore . . .
