Alternator Problems Sign In

I have a 1994 Mustang Gt. I have replaced the alternator for the 3rd time in 4 months. I bought the car with a leaking water pump. After replacing that I could see that the alternator got wet and it stopped working. No big deal it made sense. I bought a duralast alternator from Autozone and thought nothing of it. A couple months later it stopped charging at idle and then quit charging all together. This week it has happened again the same way. There is no water getting in the alternator. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the car is shorting out somewhere and killing the alternator's. If it was shorting out though I would think the battery would go dead. I've left it without starting it for almost a week and it always starts right up... Please Help!

Is the ALT you are getting the direct replacement? You may need a higher amperage ALT becuase it is the GT ,model. If the amps on the ALT are too low, the battery could go flat cause not enough power is getting to it, or even burn the ALT out cause the rotor is moving too fast in the stator due to the belts running it too hard.

I have seen it before. Lower amp ALTS on performance vehicles burn out or dont last long. Check amperage and make sure it is right one is my advice.
