99 dodge burns fuse Sign In

Hello
I hope some one can help with this. Electric problems are not my strong suit.
1999
Dodge
Stratus
2.0 ltr
Car was running fine yesterday. no problems
but car would not crank this morning. no click. nothing
I replaced battery.and cleaned and inspected all batt. connections.
when I turn key to the on position. no check eng. light.also no radio.
I found 1 burnt fuse under hood labeled starter, ign, fuel
I replaced that fuse and dash lights and radio worked again.
but as soon as I turned the key to start position the fuse popped.
anyone know how to find what is causing this fuse to burn.

Guess: The starter is using way to many amps? Hard to know for sure and may need to remove it for testing,

ok now I'm completely stumped.
put a new fuse in today and every thing works fine.
maybe I moved some wires that were causing a short when I put it back together yesterday
I dont know. but if it happens again I will be back for more help.

It stinks trying to find what won't stay broken! If intermittent it will probably all test fine now.

Something you could do is test for voltage drop when starter is operated. With a known good battery it may only drop to 10v for duration of cranking. If lower than 9v it either is using too much or battery is just not powerful enough. That would only be test for now while working.

Trouble is you need to catch it in the act. Either a starter or battery can be intermittent even if newMad
