Hello, This particular car is a 99 Toyota Corolla, 1.8L, 5spd, with 130K. New battery in Jan. I started having sporadic starting problems several months ago. I'd get a single click for several tries and then would start up. One day the starter wouldn't disengage once I parked and took keys out. Part of insulation on wire harness between the battery and starter melted before I could get one of the cables off the battery to stop it. Mechanic replaced the starter, and same problem, kept engaging. He checked the relays and they tested fine. He thought the cause was some wiring that got messed up in the wire harness and ended up rewiring it a little bit and got it to work. I got the car back a month ago and in 30 days I had 4 instances of the same clicking but not starting. Now I can't get it to start at all. I've never messed with a car other than an oil change and was wondering what my next step should be ? Another starter, ignition switch or lock and cylinder, or new battery cable ? Something else ? thanks

Sounds like you have more damaged wiring than first thought .If there was melted wiring at the starter, there's bound to be more in the harness. If you trust your mechanic and his ability to trace and repair the wiring have him dig a little deeper . If not , find a shop that is experienced in wiring repair . LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH
