so i have a 98 lumina 3.1 .. recently i was driving down the road and it stalled, started back up but kept stalling. so i pulled over and realized the fuel pump wasn't kicking on when turning the key to the on position, so i determined i had a bad fuel pump.

Well after replacing the fuel pump, my car started right away, ran for 30 seconds, then stalled.
so i turn the key to the on position to start it again and.. no fuel pump.

i run to go get my buddy to show him(a few minutes go by). and when i turn the key the on, now i hear the pump again, so i start the car, it starts, and then stalls. and then the fuel pump doesn't even turn on... unless i wait a few min.

I've checked the relays and fuses, all look to be in working order. cleaned off my positive cables to my battery.. i just don't know what the problem could be.. pcm? security? any information would be very appreciated, thanks, Jordan.

You DO realize that the pump only runs for 2 seconds and then shuts off when you turn the key on.

sorry i must not have explained my problem good enough. I just talked to a few mechanics in town and they beleive i'm having an issue with the cars Theft detection system. it has a passkeyII system. so now i've narrowed my issue down to either the key ign security(possible broken wires from ign to tdm), the theft detection module, or my pcm.. i just dont know where to go from here, other than paying someone to find out which part i'm having issues with :/

is the security light on in instrument cluster?
Anyway scan for codes, yes even if all lights are off.
NOTE: the security system may require a scanner capable of reading B series codes.

I don't think so. You car ran for 30 seconds. Passkey disables the starter.

If passkey detects a problem while the engine is running, it won't shut the engine off either. The security light would be on or flashing if there was an issue. You haven't narrowed anything down because you haven't done any diagnostic checks to isolate the problem.

If you have no fuel pressure while cranking the engine, you should find out if the fuel pump relay is being energized by the PCM. You should feel it click on and then off when you first turn the ignition on. If the relay clicks you need to check for power and ground inside the relay cavity. PIN 30 should be hot all the time. PIN 87 is the load side ( fuel pump) and should have power when the relay is energized. If the relay is energizing, the relay is good, and you don't have any fuel pressure, check for power at the pump connector. Grey wire (PIN B) should have 12 volts when the relay is energized. Black wire (PIN C) should have less than 0.3 volts with your volt meter connected to battery ground. Voltage drop measurements should be taken by back probing the connector. Let us know your results.

I just got the car back from my mechanic. Turns out it was the cars pcm. It wasn't flipping the relay for the fuel pump
