98 cavalier power window switch	Sign In

i need help with my 98 cavalier. the power window switch works sporadically at best.
when a window switch is pressed you can hear the motor trying to work. then at times
the window will go down a little bit even if you hold the button down. sometimes the window will go all the way
but not come up. this is a 4 door so the switch controls all 4 windows with a lockout button.
i'm trying to determine if its the switch or all 4 window motors gone bad. a wiring schematic and a circuit board
diagram might help. but any info/advice would be greatly appreciated. i can buy a new switch for $113 but
i want to make sure that its the switch before i spend $$ for the switch. possibly someone can direct me
to an online used auto parts site?????

I strongly doubt all four motors are bad! Guesses: I think all power is routed thru master switch first. Do the other windows work at each door or behave better or worse when switched from those switches?

They are trying which is good. Possible and just lost hair over a relay that just didn't let the amps thru with enough force for door lock problem but would test ok with a simple test light.

You could try cleaning the master switch with some of that "computer duster" type stuff or electric cleaner,

thank you Tom, i will try the cleaner stuff. I too was thinking that all 4 motors couldn't be going at the same time.
