98' Honda Passport Electrical Issue (Turn Signals)

I drive a 98 Honda Passport with 118k miles. Recently when I switch a turn signal on (left or right) the hazard lights (actual lights and the indicator on dash) come on instead. Every so often they will work correctly but 99% of the time it turns on the hazards. The side that I am not signaling towards is slightly dimmer then the opposite side, on both the indicator and the signal. I have tested the combination switch and the flasher relay, both are fine. I replaced the Hazard Switch thinking that it was causing it but it had no effect. I am a novice when it comes to car repairs, especially electrical issues, any assistance in troubleshooting the issue would be appreciate! Thanks, Matt

MatthewG, at the combination switch, terminal 6b is a brn/wht wire. This comes from the flasher. This wire then supplies voltage to the grn/blk wire when the signal is set to left, or the grn/wht wire for right. If you turn on the directional and the 4 ways come on, you either have a short to voltage between the grn/wht and the grn/blk or a faulty combination switch. Unplug the switch and put an ohmmeter across the grn/blk and the grn/wht. If you have continuity, repair wiring. If it is open, replace switch. Steve

I tested the switch and it comes out "OK". I also disconnected the indicators to see if there was a bad ground but the hazards still came on. I am to the point where I think it has to be bad wiring. I really don't know where to being trying to do a repair like that. It could be any of the wiring beyond the combo switch. I am going to swing by the dealer tomorrow and see if this is a known issue they can provide some insight on. Thanks for the reply, -Matt
