97 mercury mountaineer battery sign light came on and will not go off

OK. Now give us a little more information as to when it came on. Does anything else seem different? (gauges or dummy lights) Possibly just the alternator is bad. Possibly the connection on the alternator is bad, Possibly the regulator is bad. The more information we can get, the better we can assist you. Thanks
