rear power window & door lock on driver's side stopped working awhile back. today mechanic pulled off rear door panel & got power window working but said the lock motor needs to be replaced. that little motor wedged in the door is $162 bucks from the dealer (part no. 6930602021 called a lacth). how difficult would it be to take it out, test it & replace it? would i likely have success w/ a lock motor from the salvage yard? can anyone show me a diagram/photo of how to install it? thanks!

I'd junk yard for the part. If you have one that lets you pick your own even better. Take a 9V battery with you and wire cutters/strippers and you can test it right there. If your door panel is still off take a good look at yours so you bring the tools needed which might involve rivots to cut off or drill out. The rest should be clips, rods and things and take what you might need. It's a PIA to get all this new for me so I go get this stuff used, T

Ps: The yard I love is great and only asks that you don't take parts from a whole good door that they would want to sell whole, duh.

Re: 1996 Toyota Corolla DX automatic w/ power locks

Was hoping rear door on driver's side would open when I turned the child lock but that didn't work... I unplugged wires that connected actuator but still could not unlock nor open door. I manually pushed 2 horizontal metal rod arms back & forth but door would not unlock nor open. Didn't see any broken parts on the lock mechanisms. Anyone know if the solenoid is located inside the actuator? I wonder if it is a seized up solenoid? I heard that Toyota had a recall on a glitch in original door relay box that allows current to flow thru solenoids for too long under certain conditions & cause solenoid to overheat & seize up---anyone know anything about this recall & if it seems likely dealer would replace when only 1 of 4 doors won't open? thanks
