I have a 1996 Pontiac grand am Se. Last weekend some friends of mine and me were hanging out in my car with the key out of the ignition. And we were like lets listen to some music so i put the key in and turned it back and my kenwood stereo dident turn on then we smelt something burning and see a little puff of smoke come from my dash so i really fast took the key out and tryed it again like 10 mins after and nothing. So right now my car starts and runs fine but... my dome light dont work, my stereo dont work, my heat and cold dont work, the seat belt light stays on and flash's randomly, the E-brake light is on, ABS break light is always on. So i checked to see if it was a fuse i have a fuse box in my car on the side by the door all were fine but the radio ignition fuse was blown and the Ac/heat fuse and the dome light fuse blown. replaced them all and right when i put the key in and start it all 3 new fuse's blew again. Please someone help i cant pay right now to bring it in.

In that Kenwood ISN'T an OE stereo one can only guess with what happened that wiring was a hack job as most failures would just be a blown fuse.

This unit needs constant power for memory and adequate power only when key is on "run" or "accy" position then the speaker hook ups.

If in the installation wires were just probed to see if they were power at the correct times and key positions it may have blown fuses right out of the gate and it may be over fused and wires took the hit. If you can - take that unit out and look for burned insulation, put proper fuses back in marked slots with proper amp rating.

I'm no stereo or whatever unit geek but they do make "interfaces" that use the vehicle's existing wiring for what was it's existing radio set up. If you want power to shake the earth then you should do that at home and not in a car IMO but find the right nuts who do that stuff and cause these problems.

With the symptoms you have some things are fried. With some luck you can see the flaws in wire insulation and can get out of this with some careful re doing this installation or get some help. I don't think this can be considered safe to use as is unfortunately,

I can only guess - wiring has melted together such that multiple things are touching thru bared insulation somewhere??
