Ok this is a fun one.
I was driving along, and the radio in my car started to act really strange. It was like it was resetting itself a few times a second. The next thing I noticed is that when I put my foot on the accelerator, the gas, speedometer and Temperature gauges all fell dead. At this point the car was still running. The battery trouble light came on. While at an intersection my car cut out. Once i put the car in park, it started fine and I never had any more problems getting to my destination.
Later that day, after the car had been parked few hours, I put the key in the dash lights lit up but when I turned the key, NOTHING. I lifted the hood to check the battery connections, still nothing. I was about to call for a bust but before i did, I gave it one more try and for some reason, the car started fine. As I was driving to the garage, the symptoms from before (gauges dropping put when i hit the accelerator..) had returned. The car again died in the middle of the street but after a few turns of the key, it started again and I made it to the garage.
Unfortunately for me, this story does not end here.
The guys at the garage could not find anything in particular to cause these odd problems but checked all the main wiring connections and so on. The next day I drove the car for 6 straight hours without a hitch. I had the tires changed drove around town for a bit over the course of a few days. Then, I drove across town, everything seemed good, until i got back in my car after it had been parked for a few hours. It would not start. I had to get a boost (the lights were not left or or anything like that). Once i did. I realized that the same symptom of the gauges dropping out when I pushed the accelerator had returned (this happens even if parked and/or in neutral). I took it to another garage where they said it was the battery, but before the other garage said the battery was fine and so was the alternator. If the car was going and you moved the battery lugs, nothing happened, only when you hit the gas.
Does anyone Have ANY idea what the **** is up with my poor car. I know it's old and it's a neon.. but someone please help!

GUESS: There is a problem with grounding at the instrument panel. What may be happening is when you touch the gas pedal it gets a tad of a better ground. Look for a ground strap that might be loose or broken. You could just add one to known common ground of dash to known ground of the body of the car,
