96 Z71 daylight running lights stopped working Sign In

My 96 Chev Z71 pickups daytime running lights have quit working. I put new bulbs in and no change. When I turn the lights on while driving at night I have no problem with either the dim or bright but when the switch is turned off I get nothing. At one time my lights worked as long as the truck was running, day or night. Where should I be looking. Thanks... Darren Mac

Check and make sure your parking brake isn't partially applied. That shuts them off. Other than that, it's going to get a little complex to diagnose.

the brake light indicator in the dashboard has been on for a long time ...2 years. I have the brake released. Could the parking brake switch be out of adjustment ?

It may be but as long as that light is on, the DRLs will be disabled, assuming it's on for parking brake reasons and not the low brake fluid sensor.

I took a closer look at the dash and discovered the light that was always on is the ABS brake indicator. My truck was his by lightning and this light came on at that time. I have had the truck checked out and the mechanics tried to reset this light with the computer and were unable to. This happened long after the day running lights went out. The ABS brakes work fine however the light will not go out. I don't think they are related because the lightning strike occurred after the daylight running lights problem showed up. I did check my parking brake and it is fully released. I also have plenty of fluid in my brake resevoir. Still looking for answer , please help. Thanks

You'll have to troubleshoot the circuit then. There is a DRL module that could have a problem.

If the ABS light is on, your ABS system is disabled so it can't be working good or at all.
