1996
Ford
Contour Sport
2l 4 cyl automatic
72K miles

For a long time, the dash temp gauge was intermittent, reading at best very low on the gauge. Now it is dead....does not ever come off the bottom peg.

Searching for parts online, they list TWO items..... a coolant temperature sensor, and a coolant temperature sender. Which of these should I replace?

I think I can see from the pic in my Chilton's book that it is on the left side, front of the engine. But I need to buy the right part first!

You would need a "sender". That's the parts that signals the gauge. The sensor is the part that communicates with the computer.
