96LINCOLN CONTINENTAL WON'T START

96 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL WON'T START. WHEN IT FIRST STARTED SOMETIMES IT WOULD NOT START AND ABOUT 1 OR 2 HR. LATER IT WOULD START AND RUN GOOD.IT WON'T START AT ALL AT PRESENT IT IS NOT GETING ANY FIRE TO THE PLUGS. I REPLACED THE COILS NO CHANGE. THE ANTI THEFT LIGHT IS FLASHING WHEN THE DOOR IS OPEN COULD THIS BE THE PROBLEM IF SO HOW DO I FIX IT.

I had a simular problem with my Lincoln and Tom Greanlief told me to replace the modems under the hood on the drivers side, they just plug in, one is for the fuel pump, one is for engine control, can't think what the other one is but they come in package of three (3) about $10 dollars. Fixed my car, no problem after replacing them. starts every time.

Here's a maybe for this: There should be an enertial cut off to prevent the engine from running in a collision or rollover and not sure with the Continental but they frequently put them in the trunk. Owner's manual may show exactly where it is. It shouldn't restet by itself but could be the problem. If just two wires to a switch with a red "reset" switch see if current get in and out of that switch. If not and it won't reset it may be bad.
Ayor if you want for just a test and I would look to see if the voltage is NOT getting thru this is to jump it just enough time to see if that instantly gets it running. Be especially aware of possible damage if the thing has three wires as it may be more than a simple power break - like I said AYOR,

THANKS TOM
I JUMPED THE TWO WIRES AT THE CUT OFF SWITCH IN THE TRUNK,BUT THERE IS STILL NO FIRE TO THE PLUGS.
IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER IDEA PLEASE HELP.

Have you tried another key? Sometimes the key will lose the ability to transmit to the module. You might be able to disconnect the battery and have the system reset if keys are good. If keys are good, you will need the PATS and GEM module tested to see where the problem is.

there is a ignition moduel on the distribitour it is a rectangel box screwed to the disteributor or on the fire wall my information may be dated my lincon was a 94. and i had a 92 bronco both had moduel peroblems. you can take it and have it tested at auto zone and as for the security light it blinks when you open the door just like my ford

sounds like it could be the bcm (body control module)-not sure if it ha s a theft deterrent module.
not sure on fords,but have had some chrysler products intermittently not start-theft light on etc....had bcm problems.....problem is with late model bcm's ,they have to be programmed to the vehicle...so even if you replace it ,it has to be towed to the dealer to be programmed.
can't use a used one either for this same reason...its already programmed to another vehicle.
i know gm's had a lot of problems with keys,also with the vats (vehicle antitheft system) module and with the vats cylinder,(lock cylinder where key goes in),wires to cylinder break.
just some thoughts.....
