93 ford tempo speed sensor

Having a problem with speedometer and engine preformance on 93 tempo 2.4 liter automatic. since speedometer fluctuates and sometimes stops working altogether, car wont shift out of first gear at times. it is totally intermittent. i changed the VSS already, but still happens. i read that there have been wiring problems with this system but explanations were vague. Can someone shed some light on this subject, prehaps some electrical troubleshooting tips, i'm no sparky, but i can use a multimeter.............Thanks

For now inspect wiring connections, re grease with dielectic grease as needed or replace,
