93 Chevy Astro - failing powerlocks kill battery Sign In

I've got a 1993 Chevy Astro with power locks and windows. The windows work fine still, but the power locks currently do not. I've had this van for about 9 months and a couple months ago, the power locks seemed to stop working intermittently and after a few slams of the doors things appeared to be working again. I think the problem is linked to the side swing door, since after fiddling with that door, things started working again...

Armed with only limited electrical knowledge and a lot of common sense, I'm thinking its a short somewhere. The powerlocks are an obvious convenience, but now I believe it is draining the battery - since my <new> battery is dying every couple days. And that's why I really want to fix this problem.

Hopefully I have given enough details and there is a knowledgeable Astro-head with advice out there. thx in advance!

This may seem really out there and is but just up and replace the lock relay for it. Recently finished up a PDL, dead battery thing on a Suburban after SIX months of testing everything in the vehicle, replacing battery, the remote module that doubles as a delay for interior lights and everything worked and checked out as ok each time and test and the final fix was a six pin relay that would test proper till the cows came home but fixed the intermittent locks working only to lock but not always open, mystery dead battery, would work for days or an hour when touched but is now fixed with that relay.

Thing is only $20ish bucks and worth tossing to rule out - testing it is futile.

Hint - advice: Battery is compremised from going dead a few times and doesn't have the life left in it that it should. Your call but I'd swap that out for yet another new one when this is solved,

T

Thx for the advice. I have been meaning to buy a Chilton repair manual - I guess now is the time. Swap out the relay, then get a new battery.
