91
Lexus
LS400
V8
200k

Events leading up to the problem:
Car started perfectly (seemed a little sluggish on two cold mornings but nothing dramatic.) until I drove a few 100ft and turned the car off. hour or two later, it wouldn't start. At first it made constant click, click, click, click, when trying to start. Waited a few minutes and tried again; nothing. I cant recall if it clicked but Im pretty sure it didn't click at all
- First thought was Battery
*Tried to jump it; single click and nothing.
-Bought a brand new battery; single click
*Noticed negative terminal smoke a bit with a slight spark. Terminal was hot/warm
* all lights (headlights, dash, running, etc.) went off when ignition was turned. still single click.
- replaced terminals
*Same thing as above but noticed marks on the negative post.
- checked all connections/grounds/fuses (not sure how to test the relay fuse) that could be checked without taking parts off to access the starter/solenoid (A LOT of work! Saving this for last) ** I have an oil leak that may cause a short???

The click from what I've read is the Solenoid trying to start. I've never had a problem with my car starting other than it seemed like I left a head lamp on overnight on a 45 degree night. Starter is a royal pain to get to and I can't get to the part (plus intake gaskets) until Monday. Anyone have any ideas on what is going on? I really don't think my starter is bad but maybe the ground came off at the Solenoid or alternator?

All symptoms listed at once:
-One click when ignition is turned.
- power seems to go out once turned
- lights are not dim when on
- ran perfectly fine but seemed like the battery was a tad low for a day or two before the problems. Tried jumping at the time it first happened and nothing.

If more info is needed, please let me know and I'll try to get back A.S.A.P!

Try cranking the engine by hand to make sure it's not seized first, then check all the cable connections at the battery and starter. Sparks and a hot area indicates a poor connection at that point.
