89 Mercedes 190 E Relay help

I have a 190E 89 The Relay in the fuse box the 3rd one to the right is missing it been replace with a wire with a inline fuse it # R4 this was done before I got the car . what Relay belong there ? should I replace it or keep wire set up ? the wire worry me it was the reason I lost power to the fuel pump it come out way to easy

It sounds like the car had a previous problem with the relay not energizing for some reason and it appears they couldn't figure out why it was happening so they just jumped out the relay. That's not a very smart thing to do. They just couldn't figure out the electrical circuit.
