88 dodge shadow heater moter does not work Sign In

i have a 88 dodge shadow that the heater moter does not work. i put jumper wires directly to the fan and it works. my chilton manual says power should come from fuse #7 but there is only 4 volts there. where does fuse #7 get it's power

1998 Dodge Shadow doesn’t show up in my repair manuals of parts supplier catalogs. The last year I could find one was 94?

Re: 98 dodge shadow heater moter does not work Sign In

We can only help if we get accurate information. As Dan pointed out, the last year for the Shadow in the US is 94.

Looking at the 94 diagram, the power is fed from fuse #7 not 8 and it gets it's power from the ignition switch.

Re: 98 dodge shadow heater moter does not work Sign In

What's that suppose to mean??????
I would be more then willing to help if I had the information?
I was more or less asking if you posted the proper year for this vehicle; because a 1994 Shadow uses the #7 fuse for the blower motor.
So if this is the same; it gets its power feed from the ignition switch’s black/orange wire. This portion of the switch is feed power from one of the 18gage gray fuse links that ends up as a pink/black wire at the switch.
It should have battery voltage at it with the ignition switch in the run position.

And here’s good luck to you finding a job.

The wiring is the same for the 88 so the previous answer still applies.

elrick; The 30A fuse for the heater originates at the ignition switch. There is a fuseable link (grey) in line. But, if the link was blown, you'd have NO voltage. Check to make sure you have 12V coming out of the heater blower motor switch going to the resistor.

Your not supposed to have power coming out of the switch. The switch supplies ground. The motor receives constant power from fuse #7.

I assume you have the key on when you checked that.
First check around the back of the fuse panel to make sure there is nothing wrong with the buss bar in the fuse box. Next check the fusible links near the battery that supply the ignition switch.

Re: 98 dodge shadow heater moter does not work Sign In

i found the pink and black wire under the hood, it has 12 volts. i followed it to beneath the dash where it appears to go to some type of block above the steering wheel but i can't really see what it is. any clue what this is.

Re: 98 dodge shadow heater moter does not work Sign In

the problem seems to be the ignition switch. i can't afford to replace it right now so i ran a wire from the pink and black wire coming into the switch to the bus bar going to fuse 7. everything works. does anyone see a problem with this as a temp fix

Re: 98 dodge shadow heater moter does not work Sign In

Only that it doesn't shut off with the key as it's supposed to.
It's a high current draw situation when the fan is on so you need some pretty heavy and secure connections.

Re: 98 dodge shadow heater moter does not work Sign In

That should be fine if it's soldered solidly

Re: 98 dodge shadow heater moter does not work Sign In

is there a better auto repair guide than chiltons to buy in the future, something with more complete wiring diagrams, or a web site with complete diagrams for free

Most of that stuff isn't going to be free. AutoZone has a repair guide but it's has a lot of mistakes and lumps too many things together. Your best bet is www.alldata.com You can buy a single car subscription and that's the info we use.

elrick; Check your local library. Most have manuals that you can copy needed pages.
