83 lincoln mark 6 no fire at fuel pump. Sign In

Hi All,I have no power at the fuel pump,I checked all 4 relays for power as I am not sure what one is for the fuel pump but all 4 had power, then I want to the trunk and checked the inertia switch, the button was down, but it had 2 pink wires going in I checked them with a test light and there was no power in either one with the key on ?? someone said to check the fusible link at the starter relay,I don`t know where that is or what it even looks like?? anyway can anyone tell me where to start looking for the cause I have no power to my fuel pump,NOW I KNOW THE PUMP IS GOOD,I want under and unhooked the fuel line at the filter then unpluged the pump and took a hot wire to it and it pumped like wow,so the pump is good,Thanks so much for your time either way,Bill

Are you having someone turn the key on for you when you check for current? The PCM only delivers current for a couple of seconds to prime the system for starting. So if you are looking for constant current, that may be the problem. The fuel pump relay should have a green base on it.

Hi,OK I did test the relay with the green base on it I understand it should only have power for a few sec,BUT IT HAS POWER AS LONG AS I HAVE THE KEY ON<not just a few sec,??

There should be one constant hot (battery power), one switched hot (ignition power) and the wire that feeds the inertia is the 2 second run. If the relay has constant power on all the pins, switch the relay with one of the others. If that is not the cause, you will have to start chasing wires to be sure there is no breaks in them.

Afterthought. See if you can unplug each sensor one at a time and see if it starts. We had a cannister purge solenoid shut down the fuel suystem and replaced fuel pump 4 times. It may not be your problem, but check it anyway.

OK Way2old here is where we are,I want out checked the relay as you said, have 1 hot always,2hot with key on that are real bright and 1 on with key on but dim,the other one comes on for a few sec when I turn the key then goes out,I also checked the 2 wires going to the inertia switch, they bout have power for a sec or two when I turn on the key,but it still will not pump fuel?

Next you need to check to see if there is current getting to the pump. You might have a bad connection at the pump wiring. You stated that if the pump is wired directly to 12 volts it works, so it has to be a wiring problem before the pump.
