82 datsun 200sx no start

manual trans. Went to start and clutch was not pushed all the way down. Car jumped and would not restart. Was able to jump start but jump vehicle had to rev engine pretty high. I have replaced the starter. I have 12 volts at the s terminal. Car will not crank even when trying to crank directly at the starter. engine is not locked up, can be turned by hand. When battery is hooked up tail lights stay on. Any ideas?

Sounds like the battery is dead. Have it charged and tested.
