68 Camaro Gas Guage stopped working Sign In

Hello,
The gas gauge in the main gauge cluster stopped working. Since I have not been able to get it to work, I have installed a new gas tank, sending unit and wire from the tank to behind the kick panel(Classic Camaro replacements). If I leave the car sit for about an hour the gauge goes up to 1/4 tank, but when I start the car it drops to below Empty. If I disconnect the sending unit wire, the gauge slowly(about a minute) goes to way beyond full. All the other gauges, speedometer and lights are working in the cluster. I have also ran a temporary ground from the battery to the corner of the tank. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
Rich

Check the cluster ground strap at top rear of cluster . make sure body is bonded to frame . make a ground to go from frame to sending unit itself not just to tank .

Thanks Re-Tired,
I'll check on those three things and let you know. Obviously the last would involve me taking the tank down again so that may take me awhile to get to.
