g'day team,

ok the car daihatsu terrios 2003
1300cc motor manual.

the question if a device that was going to use 2amps of alternator power was installed, how much extra fuel would the engine use to provide that extra 2amps?

and would fuel use lessen with bigger 6cyl' ad V8 motors?

2 amps is such a small load that you won't notice any difference in fuel consumption.

If you use W x .00134=HP. and V x A=W then 2 x 14v =28W
28 x .00134 = approx .11 hp. It is a small amount of fuel, but if you had to exert an extra .11 hp on your bicycle you would hate it.

thanks nick,

that is what my non technical mind would imagine, just on another group there is a discussion and the skeptics are saying that the 2amps will use more fuel than what a particular device might save. me i got no comment about the device just the hype about fuel used for the load mentioned. the same people also added comment that using ones headlights cost fuel??? there again i tried with a car that has tacho' and all other accessories turned of then switched high beam lights on the tacho' needle barely quivered.

be interesting if there was a way to roughly calculate any fuel use that may occur, but probably hardly worth chasing.

Not really. Not as long as it has a phone number in it.
