Hi, I run into some trouble with my yaris today and please help me to see what is wrong. =.=
2008
Toyota
Yaris sedan
engine size 1.5 (i think)
4100 miles
So i was at a red light and i wasnt paying attention that the light have changed until the car behind me horned me. so i pressed on the gas very hard and the car accelerated very fast (fast isnt a word to describe a yaris but its faster than normal.) but all of a sudden, the lights on my dashboard just went off. it was dark outside so i pulled over at the side of the road immedicately.
I did a few tests.
Turning the engine off and on, ---> doenst work
Then i turned my headlight off, the light for the clock came on. but when i turn the headlight back on, everything in the dashboard went dark again. when i turn on the headlight, the only few things i can see on the dashboard is the position of the gear i am at (P, R, N, D etc), and the little sun that indicate that headlight is on. I tested all the other part of the lighting in the car, everything else is fine except
1. when headlight is on, the lighting for the speed meter, that meter for engine speed, and the lighting for the clock and the music player are all off.
2. when headlight is off, the lighting for the speed meter, that meter for engine speed remain off, but the lighting for the clock and the music player came on.
everything else is fine. Any suggestions before i take this slow piece of crap back to the dealer?

It sounds like you have a loose wire. When you accelerated quickly, you may have thrown the earth wire therefore shorting the system, or even just broke a wire behind the dash. This shouild be a quick fix depending on where the wire has come loose. The auto electrician will run continuity tests on the wires to see which is broken. If you are lucky it will be a low wire (one not right behind dash) These are easily accessable, if it is a high wire, thats when it could get expensive as the electrician has to remove the dash. Labour costs will rocket at that point. Definately not a DIY fix, but should be easy enough.
