Sometimes my battery charge is not adequate to crank the engine, especially if I have had the radio on for about 10 minutes. I carry a jump start battery to help me when it happens but my wife is unable to use it. She is 75 and I am 81. We bought the car in Washington state in Sept 2007. In May 2008 there was a recall to fix this very thing via a computer reprogramming. However it did not work. We live in Yuma Az. Apparently there is not a Saturn Dealership within a hundred miles. Our bad. Does any one have any suggestions?

That sounds like a pretty clear situation of just a bad battery. The battery should be able to hold a charge much longer than that.
You should test the charging system along with the battery to be sure but I don't anticipate a problem with the charging system.

Thank you very much for your reply. You may be right. I believe the charging system is computer controlled rather than the good old regulator type. The charging voltage is usually around 14 volts according to my panel indicator. It will vary from about 13.8v to 14.2v. Didn't the old regulators usually hold the charging voltage at about 14.7 volts?

Jim; With this being a 2008 model, it is surely still in warranty. Call the toll free number in your owner's manual. Saturn may have a 'deal' with a shop in your area that can take care of you without having to drive 100 miles.

The regulator is built into the alternator but your charging voltage is fine.
