2008 Citroen Relay Brake Lights not working

I've got a 2008 Citroen Relay van and I'm having a bit of trouble with the brake lights, they don't work! On the dash it comes up with a warning for a faulty bulb and every time i press on the brake pedal the next time i turn the engine off the fuse for the brake lights (and the instrument panel) shorts out. The two main brake light bulbs were burnt out so i've replaced them to no avail, on the third brake light all the bulbs were fine however but it still does not work. Power is getting to the brake light module as the indicators and other lights are working fine and all i can think is that it must be some wiring problem but am unsure, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Take the bulbs out and see if it still blows the fuse. You may have the wrong bulbs.

Tried taking the bulbs out and it still blows the fuse.

Then you have a short in the circuit that will have to be tracked down.

gmonton: Look at sockets and back side of the plug too before you go insane with a wire chase. It's a bit new but who knows if they or one is actually all messed up? That and switch mechanism which should near certainly be right at the brake pedal arm. Forgive as I haven't seen a Citroen since a 1964 2CV!
