Hi, I have a 2007 holden rodeo 2.4 litre that won't start. When I turn the key it makes a clicking sound similar to when a battery is flat, but the battery is fine. A mate of mine tested his welder on a piece of steel i had in the tray the night before and i'm not sure if that has caused this problem because it hasn't started since. Where should I start checking? Could it be a relay?

There’s a strong possibility this issue is from your buddy striking an ark from the welder. Anytime you have to electric weld anything on a vehicle you should disconnect the vehicle’s battery.
If you don’t the power surge from striking and ending the ark; could back feed the entire system; taking anything in its path well beyond their electrical limits.
I have seen things like starter motor’s where every soldered connection had become melted, relays fried closed to main fuses being blown out.
One of the strangest thing’s I’ve seen was after an exhaust shop welded this person’s exhaust system. Every body ground cable on the vehicle had its insulation melted off and the negative battery terminal looked like a lump of melted solder. After repairing the electrical system; we noticed (during a road test) that the speedo was not working. After a closer look the speedo needle was on the wrong side of the zero stop pin. The stepper motor of the speedo must have been spun so hard/fast that the needle went 360degrees and ended up on the wrong side of the pin.

My whole point is that anything can happened when a 12 volt DC system is subjected to 220 + volts.
You’re going to have to start by getting your meters and test equipment out and begin a step by step test procedure to find the problem.
The could-be’s are almost endless; I don’t mean to paint a gloom and doom picture because there may only be minimal damage with something like a main fuse or cable that is at fault?

Thanks Dan, I had a feeling that was the cause. Apparently he only gave the steel a quick zap to check if the welder was working. Hopefully it hasn't done too much damage. Thanks again.
