2007 Honda Civic Sign In

First off, I know pretty much next to nothing about cars. For the most part, I am looking to be informed about my issue before I call the dealer to see what my options are :) Unless there is a very simple thing that I can try, I am pretty much hands-off!

That said:
2007 Honday Civic.

The remote entry on both keys does not work at all; press the button, and nothing. Can't open the car, the trunk, etc.

When I get into the car the "manual" way, I put the key in the ignition and absolutely nothing happens. I go to turn the key, and it's dead air. No noises, no lights...nothing turns on at all.

I have tried the simple stuff; ie, making sure the car is in park! We had taken the car out the night before this occured, and did not leave the lights on or anything like that. I also didn't notice any kind of "warning' signs before the issues popped up; perhaps they were there, but I didn't notice anything strange. To me, it's a situation where the car worked one day and completely stopped working the next.

Given the newness of the car (nevermind Honda's reputation for quality), I just don't have the foggiest clue what it could be - could it be a dead battery? Not sure if that would cause the remote entry to stop working, but again - I know pretty much nothing.

Any help/advice would be appreciated. I just don't want to sound like a complete idiot when I call the dealer and/or mechanic!

Thanks

Tom

Re: 2007 Honda Civic Sign In

From what you describe, yes,it sounds like the battery is dead
And Yes, if the battery is dead, the remote functions will not operate.
Simple thing to try would be to jump start the car,but I CAUTION you, if you are unfamiliar with doing this,it can turn out to be not so simple and possibly damage some components (computers)...etc... or even YOU..
If the battery is dead, you will need to find out the cause of the problem, electrical drain on the battery,or even a failed battery itself.

There is nothing wrong with calling the dealer and telling them the car won't start/appears dead..
Do not hesitate to do that...if you don't know...you don't know...nothing to be ashamed of.

I suggest just calling them for help/jump start/tow...and get it serviced...I assume its still under warranty by mileage, definitely by year.
Thats my opinion
Good Luck to you

Thank you!

Took it to the dealer, and indeed the battery was DOA. Replaced it, and all seems well!
