2006 Tacoma (possibly failed starter) Sign In

Went to start car, and it didn't flip on made a clicking noise, thought it was the battery, charged it still wouldn't start made the same noise but lights were working. So I disconnected the battery from the car and hooked up the jumper cables directly to the car wires and went to start and still made the clicking noise, some of my friends said it may be the starter and to give it a few whacks, did that still clicks, is there anything else I can try or do before taking it in to swap out the starter

Is it a single, solid click or a series or repeated clicking?

That means low voltage to the starter. You likely have a connection issue somewhere in the battery cables.

did an over look on the wires and tightened the bolts, still the same, im going to dummy check myself and go check the charge on the battery, if that doesn't work I'll try to get my electrician friend to check out the wires, I'll let you know if it helped

That is a very very bad thing to do......Don't ever take the vehicle battery out of the system and try to start or run the vehicle......There are so many systems you can damage by doing that....... Get the battery tested & charged, get a battery terminal cleaner and make sure the terminals & cables are spotless clean.

It might be worth your while to take the battery to a parts store and have them load test it. They can tell you if its still good or needs to be replaced so you don't have this problem again. They test it for free.
