Of course, whenever I drove the car, no problem (she's nuts). OK, so now it happened to me, so I needed to troubleshoot it. Took some time, but here it is-seems the brake lights would flash or turn on while driving-guess what disables the cruise? Troubleshooting the brake lights-I found a terminal block in the passenger compartment on the passenger side of the console with a low voltage intermittant connection. Once this connection became OPEN, the brake lights came on. Disconnecting and reconnecting worked for a while (cleaned the connection), but the real fix was a dialectric lubricant on the connections. Cruise worked first time, every time from there on out. Pity the car's not available any more. Of course, I guess drivers of the Malibu will be using this post years from now though.
