2005 Hyundai Santa Fe Sign In

Hello,

I have a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe. It is a 2.7L V6 with 100k miles on it. Nothing really led up to the issue I am having it just started one day. What happens is, on occasion, when I turn my car off and attempt to lock it and arm the alarm it will not work. It thinks the keys are still in the ignition. I have to get in, and start my car, turn it off again and then it will let me lock it. I would say it happens maybe once every other week, but I don't want it to get worse. Also, the other day my tail lights stayed on when the headlights were actually turned off. The car was locked, and the lights were all in the off position. Any insight would be great. I already had the spark plugs and fuses replaced and this is still happening. The issue with the lights was a one time thing.

When the problem is occurring is the chime going off with the key out of the ignition with the door open?

There is a controller called an EATCM (electronic alarm and timer control module) that controls the functions of the alarm system, lighting, and keyless entry. The module may need to be interfaced with a high end scan tool to see if there are any trouble codes stored and to look at data stream information such as inputs and outputs when the problem is occurring. Gathering that data would give direction in diagnosing the problem.

Thank you for your response, and I am sorry I left that bit of information out. However, the alarm does not sound as if my keys are still in the ignition. I wish it did because it would save me a little bit of time and I would know that it wasn't going to lock. It just shuts off like normal, but won't lock or let the alarm set without me restarting the car and turning it off again.
