2004 GMC SIERRA SPEEDOMETER WACKO

Yesterday the speedo in my 2004 Seirra 1500 stuck at 80mph while driving the interstate. Even when I slowed in town and eventually parked, it still stayed there. Then when started it the next time, it took off from 80 (like 80 was now 0). So now I'm driving down the road at 120-140mph according to the dash. Any idea what my problem may be or how to resolve it? Thanks for any help.

There have been a lot of troubles with Chev/GMC IP’s (instrument panel) doing what you’ve described.
It would only take a couple of minutes to confirm this with a scanner that is capable of commanding the IP to do a full needle sweep of all gauges. If some do not do as they’re told, then you would either replace the IP cluster or have it rebuilt.
The legal way of having an IP replaced or rebuilt would be to send it into an authorized facility where they would certify that the mileage on the odometer, has not been tampered with and is accurate, as to what they found on the original.
Here we have to send it in through a GM dealer or an AC Delco outlet; we for some reason cannot do directly to the supplier?
