I have a 2004 Chevy Venture experiencing issues with the driver side (left) tail light circuit board. The break bulb, left turn signal bulb, and reverse indicator bulb aren't working. Both the top and bottom running light(s) bulbs are working when activated, however when the left turn signal and/or hazard lights are activated, instead of the left turn signal bulb turning on, both the top and bottom running lights flash instead. Tonight I'm going to temporarily swap the driver and passenger side tail light circuit boards to see what happens. Any ideas on where the issue might be? Vehicle electronics isn't my strong suit. Any suggestions and/or advice would be greatly appreciated! It's my understanding that tail light electrical issues with the 2004 Chevy Venture (and other GM Mini vans from this same generation) are quite common.

Re: 2004 Chevy Venture Tail Light Issue Sign In

There is a Bulletin on this

Subject: Tail Lamp/Brake Lamp Bulb Inoperative (Replace Bulb and/or Circuit Board) #03-08-42-007A - (01/09/2004)
Models: 2000-2004 Chevrolet Venture
2000-2004 Oldsmobile Silhouette
2000-2004 Pontiac Montana

This bulletin is being revised to add model years. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 03-08-42-007 (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

Some customers may comment that the upper left hand or right hand tail lamp/brake lamp bulb is inoperative.

This condition may be the result of moisture entering the lamp housing and changing the bulbs resistance, causing the bulb to burn out and or melting the circuit board.

Replace the burned out bulb and the circuit board if needed. Apply dielectric lubricant or dielectric grease to the left hand and right hand tail lamp bulb terminals.

Refer to Tail Lamp Assembly and or Back up, Sidemarker, Stop, Turn Signal Bulb Replacement in SI.

Parts Information

Part Number

(in Canada, use 10953529)

Dielectric Lubricant

Dielectric Silicone Grease

Circuit Board-Left

Circuit Board-Right

Re: 2004 Chevy Venture Tail Light Issue Sign In

Does this have an aftermarket trailer harness installed? If the boards can be swapped that would definitely tell you if the board is the issue. If the problem is still there after swapping, your going to need to do some circuit checks using a volt meter or 12 volt test light. You'll also need the wiring schematic for the rear lighting.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
