New to the forum, any help is greatly appreciated.
I have a 2004 Chevy Z71 (5.3L Vortec) and a 2004 Chevy Suburban (5.3L Vortec). Both run well. The only difference is the Suburban has a sun roof and the truck is 4WD. The message center on the Z71 is out (blank). I've been told there is a recall on that. I took it to the Chevy dealer and they "fixed it" for a while. But eventually the problem returned.
Gages, speedometer and Tachometer all work fine and the PRUNDL is also visible, just the Message Center is blank.
I swapped the instrument panel between the two vehicles and the problem remains with the truck. So, it's not the instrument panel itself, but something else. Several months ago, I could "Slap" the dashboard and the Message center information would return for a while. This is no longer true, no matter how hard I slap the dash.
I am not a mechanic, but reasonably technical and capable. So please provide information commensurate with that skill level.
I believe the problem is just a connector or ground that has worked loose. Any tips on where to start looking would be appreciated.
