2003
CHEVROLET
S10
2.2L (4 CYLINDER)
80,000 miles

I was driving my 2003 S10, and shut it off to go to class. When I went to start it up to go home, it wouldn't start. I had a friend jump me, and it started right up, and idled just fine. I took off and all of the dash lights began flashing, my radio went off, and the guages started jumping around. When I let off the gas to shift into 2nd (manual trans.) the truck died. I had this problem over and over.

This happened also back in January and I took my alternator to Auto Zone and it tested bad, so I got a new one and it started right up. I had a couple problems off and on after that, but I hadn't had any for a couple months and now it is messing up again. The alternator was a pain to get off, so I thought I would see if there could be any other causes before I went to check that again. Any suggestions??

Thanks!!!!!

Mate, if it is doing the same things as last time, then it sounds like the ALT is bad again. It's up to you with your experience of problems before to determine if you think it's the same. Sounds like the regulator is messing up, but I can't be sure without seeing it. regulator regulates the voltage that your ALT puts out to your battery. If it is busted it can charge at 16V or 2V. There is no rhyme or reason to it's charging behaviour, it will charge what it wants, when it wants. Get it checked 1st, then it's your decision for the ALT replacement.
