2003 Mazda Tribute Sign In

I have a 2003 Mazda Tribute 2 wd 3.0 engine. Was wondering if the ECM controls the Tach, speedometer & fuel guage? Can be driving down the road and all of a sudden tach & speedo & fuel guage top out, then go back to zero. Then go back to normal,1 time before with damp weater also started running rough but came out of it,the last couple times it has rained engine know runs rough at idle & under a load & check engine light comes on. I know there have been problems with coils & ecm's on these. Just trying to figure out if the ECM controls both and that could be my problem.

Thanks for your Help!

If the check engine light is on or has been on, you should have the ECM scanned to see what trouble codes are being stored.

The instrument cluster communicates with several other modules in the vehicle including the ECM over a data bus. The information is provided to the cluster processor by these modules.

The cluster's processor also has diagnostic capabilities. All the modules in the vehicle should be scanned for codes. This requires an enhanced scan tool.

PCM is known to corrode through the case and cause all sorts of weird problems. I would do what des said and get it scanned and diag first. It's not a bad idea to pull the PCM out and make sure it hasn't corroded through the case. scrape of any surface corrosion and spray with aerosol anti seize (CU800 by Wurth im sure others make it) and re-install.
