2003 Impala: interior lights won't go off Sign In

2003
Chevrolet
Impala

I took my car to a Firestone before I left for vacation. I got an oil change, tires filled and rotated, break fluid, reverse light fuse replaced and my serpentine belt replaced.
That night on my way to the beach I noticed that the light on my rear view mirror was on and would not turn off. I had to jiggle the wires to get to go off, but it would just go back on a few min. later. Then the floor lights came on and would not go off. After turning the car off the lights stayed on for 15 min. before going off. I called the Firestone because I didn't have this problem before I brought the car in and was treated very rude by the guy on the phone.

Is there any way I can fix this myself?

stomko; I did a tune up on a car one day. The customer called back the next day because they had a flat tire. It was my fault because I was the last sucker to have worked on it. Stuff happens. I would not take my car to a tire shop to have it 'worked on'. That's like going to a 7-11 to have a cavity filled. What was the cause of the blown reverse lamp fuse? Fuses don't blow 'just for the heck of it'. Obviously, either the circuit was drawing more amperage than the value of the fuse, or there is a circuit issue.
Now, I don't mean to sound like the Firestone guy, and in my area, they have a terrible reputation, but I would recommend that you find a reputable independent or dealer to diagnose and repair this. The interior lamps are controlled by the BCM (body control module), so it requires a bit more knowledge than a tire-buster.

Before jumping to any conclusions, go around the car and open and close every door including the trunk. It sounds like you have a door ajar.

All the doors and trunk have been opened and closed several times since the problem starting to happen, it's not a door ajar.

I bought the car from the manager of the Firestone so that's why I have been bringing the car there for repairs but I am through with them. They didn't tell me why my reverse fuse blew, they just replaced it. At first they called me and said they didn't know why it didn't work and would have to run an electrical diagnostic, but when I picked up my car they said it was just a fuse. My car is also part of the recall that came out in April, so I need to take it to a dealer anyway and I'll see if they have any thoughts on the problems but the BCM seems to be the culprit.
