2003 Ford F250 Super Duty Dome Light/Reverse Light Issue Sign In

Just bought this vehicle used last week. I only noticed today the reverse lights don't work. The bulbs are both fine. As well, I noticed neither dome light and the cargo light worked. First thing I did was check the bulbs. There wasn't any! So I picked up new bulbs and installed them. With the truck running, all three work fine. They turn on and off as I roll the switch to do so. The dome lights do not however turn on when I open a door. The issue is when I turn the truck off, all three come on and wont turn off. Im sure this is a wiring issue. Please correct me if im wrong and help!!!!! Also, this may help to know, at all times when truck is on, the symbol that lights up for door ajar is always on. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Re: 2003 Ford F250 Super Duty Dome Light/Reverse Light Issue Sign In

Now you know why the bulbs were removed.

The switches that control the lights for open doors are made right into the door latches and they have a history of sticking and causing problems like that.

Here is a technique that often works well and eliminates the problem at no cost.

Get a can of spray lube like WD40 or something like it and has a straw on the nozzle. Spray it generously up into the latch mechanism. Now open and close the door numerous times to work it in. Repeat this process several times. Since you don't really know which door is causing the problem, you should do all of them. It's usually caused by the most frequently used door but it's not guaranteed to be that one. You would need a professional scan tool to see which one is staying on.
