Hey,

I ran the vehicle over the weekend with no issues, then again on Monday -- no issues, but when I went to start it Tuesday morning the battery was so dead even the automatic locks wouldn't work. I didn't see what the problem was until I tried putting it on my battery charger that night -- my front and rear parking lights, as well as my plate light, are stuck on. All interior switches are off, and the problem persists whether or not the ignition is on.

In an attempt to mitigate the problem until we could look at it further, we tried pulling all the related fuses/relays out of the box next to the battery in the engine compartment, but even with after we pulled them all the lights were /still/ on.

I'm a simple parts-changer -- I know precious little about electrical problems and diagnosis. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, DCR.

Go into your fuse box and locate the Park Lamp Relay and swap it with one of the other like relays and see what happens.

I really appreciate the response. As it turns out, my father-in-law got back into town this morning, and he actually does have experience in diagnosis and repair.

That being said, get ready for this one: the hookup in the back where you'd plug trailer lights in had somehow, despite the plastic cover, managed to fill with water, which somehow managed to create a huge short that was supplying my parking lights and my plate light with voltage straight from the battery.

Like I said before, I'm not much of a repairman, but that's surely one I've never heard before. Heh.

Thanks for the quick reply, though, and if I'm ever faced with such weird problems again I won't hesitate to come back and bug you. ß)

I'm rather surprised there is voltage back there with the lights shut off. That's not the way most trailer hookups are wired.

It seemed to surprise him, too. But, once we got it taken care of, the lights went out, and there was no more detectable drain on the battery. It's pretty mysterious.

Sounds like he knows what he's doing. Glad you were able to get it resolved.
