I have no idea what you are saying. Try using your spell check if you can't spell basic words. The alternator has nothing to do with ignition coils if that's really what you're trying to say..

Do you mean the alternator and regulator for it has been allowed to put out higher voltage than a 12v car was designed for? If so, there's almost no limit to what electrical items could fail not just coil packs,

It would be a voltage regulator but I think this one is "regulated" by the PCM not inside the alternator and now that it has been somewhat proven to overcharge for some time there could be several things involved + blown.

Which engine is in this? I couldn't find an internal regulator for the most common 4 cyl engine. Either way this should have given you a warning,

I thought so but couldn't find one separately which most people wouldn't do anyway and if it pegged out voltage probably hurt the alternator as well as who knows what else now?

Seems at the moment it will crank and no spark noted. Alternator if really shooting up the volts probably blew something. Alone it doesn't matter if it charges or not as you are just cranking it with no spark.

At the moment just keep the battery charged with an automatic battery charger. Not sure right now what move to make next but it will need a good battery for cranking or testing anything to begin the search for the fix. Alternator is probably toast but shouldn't be the issue right now alone,

See what you've said so far? We kind of determined that whatever alternator "peeking out" means is that voltage went wild meaning over about 15.5V which is controlled by a regulator. Alternator is stupid and needs parental controls to not just keep on going up till things blow up. If that spiked to 18 - keep going perhaps 20V EVERY LAST LITTLE THING USING ELECTRICITY IN THE CAR JUST GOT SHOCKED! Electrocuted/executed - what word would you like me to use?

Plain light bulbs, radio, never mind all sorts of computer controls exposed to voltage they can't handle. Alternator may bench check that it can put out with a quick check but failed to fully test it out. Those high outputs will kill it and a battery in no time along with anything that was exposed to out of range voltage.

Battery can sit there and smoke out fumes of hydrogen and explode, alternator is pedaling so hard it burns out. THIS IS A NIGHTMARE. Whoever saw it spike and a coil pack was the weak link should have gone wild right then to find out why. Instead it went on to blow more of them and now who knows what else?

I can only go by the events you have reported and none of it sounds good. This car should go to a tech who can trace down any and all items that may have been damaged AND fix the source (voltage regulator or whole new alternator) that caused all this,

T

(BTW - Spell checked whole note at once which included the quoted part above)

I think this is all a "Domino" effect. New parts will blow instantly unless the source of the problem is corrected. It needs proper and competent help,

I think your whole theory is wrong. The alternator didn't take out the coils and I doubt the coils are even the problem.

I agree with HT. I have never seen an alternator go full tilt and take out just a coil pack. Even then modern electronics usually start shutting off if the voltage gets out of range as a form of protection. Unlikely it would take out an ignition module on the coil pack because those usually have some type of surge protection build in. Usually what takes out electrical components is a voltage spike when there is a no battery in the circuit to act as a buffer. Have seen an alternator with a shorted diode that caused transient AC voltage to get into the electrical system wacking out electronics, but it didn't damage anything. Briefly full fielded alternators on vehicles and haven't blown anything up as of yet.

Someone needs to troubleshoot this as a no start and figure out what is missing.
