Now my power windows will notreturn to the up position, I step on the brakes and the headllights come on. Does any one have a clue as to fixing this problem.

I’m sorry I don’t have anything solid for you to go on with this?
I’ve looked at a couple of different wiring diagrams searching for something that would be common too the different circuits but can’t see anything?
All I can think of is that the brake light circuit may have lost its normal path to ground and is back feeding the other items?
But all that is, is a guess.

I replaced the 40amp fuse, to a 50amp fuse..........that solved the problem.

NEVER OVER FUSE! Was the 40a fuse blown? Was that the correct amps for that circuit? Check it with an ohm meter. Put it back in if that's the correct fuse - it might have been a problem with it connecting in it's slot. Dunno?

If overfused a circuit with a short could burn up a wire or item that is far more difficult to repair than than fixing the problem would have been to begin with,
