The car is a 2002 Toyota Highlander, v6 3.0 with about 230k miles on it.

Last couple of years or so, the driver's side door lock only works on occasion to unlock the door (locking works fine), and on the rare occasion it works, it also makes the window roll down. When that happens, if I open the door while the window is descending and lock the door on the inside, the window will stop where it is.

Is this something I would be able to troubleshoot on my own, or should I have it looked into professionally? I can unlock it fine on the passenger side, just the driver's side (the one I want to use the most) that has the problem.

Going off what you are saying it sounds like you have a couple of wires shorting together....

I'm not sure of you electrical knowledge but on this one the 1st place I would probably look would be the in the harness boot that is between the door & body. This is where the wires move the most & is biggest risk of insulation of the wires breaking due to all the movement from the door opening & closing..........
