2002 Cavalier Started with electrical problems... Now Problem is wayyy worse! Sign In

I started my 2002 Cavalier (manual, 2 door) the other day and the engine worked fine but the wipers, windows, radio, air/heat, automatic lights, and dash gauges wouldnt work. Ciggarette lighter and electric miles gauge thing still worked as well as dome light and blinkers. Also the key wouldnt turn back so I couldnt turn my car off. I took it home and my step dad messed with the fuses and somehow set off the Anti theft (Passlock is the brand i believe) and now it wont start and the key is still stuck in the ignition in the on position. Please help!!

Might wanna have Dad remove the steering column shroud and unbolt the ignition switch. Then see if you can get your key out. Maybe the ignition switch is falling apart inside.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

2003 Chevy Cavalier with Theftloc and Passlock

I can't help you with anything regarding the ignition assembly. As far as Passlock is concerned I JUST did this about 2 minutes ago, was waiting for a result before posting to you because my car wouldn't start.
If Passlock enables your Theft light should light up in your instrument cluster.
1. Turn your key to start and try and start the motor for a second or two.
2. Turn your key back to the ON position and leave it sit for 10 minutes - at this time the anti-theft light should turn off.
3. Turn the ignition off.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 two more times (for a total of 3 tries 30 minutes).
5. Turn your igntion OFF and then back to START.

If none of the sensors in the passlock are on the fritz and it loses power it forgets your key's password(s) or code(s). This cycling enables the car to "relearn" your key - which is done after turning it from OFF to START.

Don't assume that relearn is a "fix all".

The poster stated that he couldn't turn his key off. Totally different issue.
