With you saying the car will start with a jump; maybe the jumper cables are making the connection(s) to the electrical system; but the actual battery terminals or cable ends are bad? Even if externally they look ok; the cable where the terminals are crimped on, are corroded; inside the outer cable insulation? Dan. If so, and the car starts as you state, I would be looking at the B- cable, or it's connection to the battery or block. If you have a volt meter I could explain a volt drop test.
