2001 Lincoln LS: Radio Shuts Down When Car in Gear Sign In

Hi everyone

My 01 LS (V8 automatic trans) just recently had a problem with the radio. Whenever my I shift the car out of park into reverse or drive, the radio shuts off (everything else like the lights, gauges, displays, etc. are still fine). It stays shut off unless the car is put into neutral or park. After it first happened, I parked somewhere to run an errand, then came back to the car and the radio worked fine when in gear (like nothing had happend). Then halfway through my trip, it randomly shut off and would only turn on in park and neutral again. As a side note, it rained a ton for the past couple days while my car was out in a parking lot. Anyone have anything similar happen or could give me an idea as to what the problem is?

Check out the Transmission Range Sensor. It is also called the Neutral Safety Switch. They run a lot of grounds through the sensor and it causes many different problems.

Man the first Taurus I ran into with this problem had me spinning until I read the service bulletin.
I still ask myself what does the range selector sensor; have to do with the radio, power windows or the variable rate steering. I guess they all speak to the GEM (body computer) and when the range selector starts speaking a different language nobody knows what to do.
I thought my customer was nuts when they described the symptoms to me.
The joys of electronics LOL.
