In my Forester (and in my friends old mazda) you must press a button (such as high beams, window button, wipers, etc.) before the engine will start. This is a security feature so that people can't drive your car without knowing how to start it. In mine you hold the passenger window button while turning the key. I would like to bypass this feature so that I can simply turn the key and start without holding the window button. Google was very unhelpful when searching for this. Could someone please help, or give a link to a site that talks about this? I'm not entirely sure what this security feature is called, so even naming it could be helpful, thanks.

You are using an aftermarket system of unknown origin, possibly LoJack. You will have to bring it to a shop that specializes in installing security systems and they may be able to modify it.

Never into these things that had a popularity spurt back when. Chapman and countless others you wont find much on as TMK they don't exist anymore. Lots of real cheap DIY junk noted. No doubt needs to just put everything and wires cut back to where they were.

As HT said, check for a place that is currently doing things and undo it,
