2000 ranger XLT blows 50amp fuse #5 Sign In

I was driving my ranger turned it off went to start it and it turned then went nothing to the ignition switch, looking in the power management blox under the hood I found number 5 the fifty amp fuse was blown. I replaced it turned the key I had everything then it all went dead again. I am not sure if it is the starter relay or the ignition switch as the manual says, could it be the starter or something else all together. help please before I pull out my hair

You appear to have a dead short in your vehicle

Firsty make a test lamp - get a headlamp bulb such as H7 and and connect two wires to the connection and put this in place of the bulb. This will allow power to flow trough the bulb and when you have a short the bulb will light.

So when you have that inplace you can search for the short try the wiring by moving it and see if the bulb lights or goes out, secondally disconect connction you may suspect the fault to be at.

When the bulb is lit the short is present
When its not lit the short is not present

Hope this helps
