2000 park avenue no power to defrost relay Sign In

2000 Park Avenue I have open circuit (bad connection) between 40 amp defrost fuse (under hood) and the defrost relay (under rear seat). I get 12 volts at the red wire from 40a fuse. I get 2-3 volts at the red wire going into defrost relay. I am asuming a bad connector inbetween the two but where?

How did you measure the voltage at the relay?

It is just a straight connection between the 2......The "where" is definitely the "$64 question", if the circuit is in fact bad & something is pulling the voltage down.....

You'd probably start off with a diagram finding all the connection so you could inspect the pins for tension, also doing a visual one as many of the harnesses as you could for any damage....

Of course if there is a weak or burnt connection you would probably want to make sure the heater element is drawing too many amps that may have caused the problem....

I will check the plug 115. Cars outside with the snow so it will take a little bit of time. Thanks Sincerely Joel Wendler

Thanks alot guys. Pulled the burnt pins out of the connectors and cut them off. Soldered a length of 10 ga copper to each end and tapped them up. Gooped up the empty holes in the connector with some black silicone.Minnesota salt is pretty rough on mechanical connections. Been using solder for trailer connections for over thirty years, Never had a fail. PS I had already soldered the antenna module 2 years ago. I just hope GM didn't hide any more weeny connections in series with this circuit. Sincerely Joel WendlerSmile
