2000 Siverado won't start in the rain Sign In

2000 Chevy Silverado 4.3 liter 132,000 miles. My truck will not start when it rains. Everything works and the engine turns over but it will not start. I replaced the plugs and the plug wires( started up fine and ran fine after change), test drove it in the rain and let it sit for 2 hours in the rain. It started up with no problem. This morning(1st morning after replacement), after being in the rain all night, it won't start. Turns over, all electrical accessories seem to work but will not start. Any ideas on my next step would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't see that you changed the distributor cap and rotor. They should have been included with the wires. Also look for any corrosion at the coil tower.

I don't have a cap and rotor. It has a coil pack? that the plug wires go into. I have been told these either work or don't work at all and usually don't have intermittent problems. I had someone crank the engine and after two 15 second cranks, I could smell gas and I could hear noises where the fuel injectors are, so it seems to getting fuel. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

No, I'm afraid your wrong about that, assuming your right about the engine size. The 4.3 does have a distributor and cap.

You are right. I was told the first time I changed the plugs and wires, I didn't have a cap. Because it's against the firewall and behind a lot of stuff and the plug wires attach from the sides, I thought this was true. I'm surprised I haven't had problems sooner. 132,000 miles and 9 years is a long way to go with the original cap, rotor, and coil wire. I'll change these parts and I'm sure I'll be good to go. Thanks for your help.

The coil wire should have been already changed with the wires. Just make sure there was no white corrosion built up on the coil contact.
